About

My home is in the Okanagan Valley in beautiful British Columbia, where I love to cycle the trails, read a good book at the beach and support the local art and theatre scene. I am an avid reader (aren’t all editors?). My interests are varied, including natural health, the arts, nature, psychology and spirituality.

My background is in the performing arts—live theatre and film. I have often been the editor or proofreader in the arts organizations where I worked. Many show programs and season brochures crossed my desk for a copyedit or proofread before going to print. I also brought clarity to the prose of high-profile artists, whose voices were well known, so had to be preserved. These skills and my love of the written word prompted me to study editing and subsequently launch my own freelance editing business.

I have also written my own director’s notes and copyedited other directors’ notes for programs and playbills. I have written marketing copy for theatres and an acting academy.

Since beginning as a professional editor, I have enjoyed helping authors and writers who are seeking to publish independently.

I have worked as a live theatre director in a company I co-founded, in many theatre festivals in Toronto and at theatres here in British Columbia. In my theatre career, I worked with new playwrights and on classic Canadian and American plays. I find working with writers and authors similar to my work with actors and playwrights. As a director, I see myself as a facilitator, bringing out the best in each actor. As a director of new plays, I helped playwrights convey their intentions through the spoken word. Behind the scenes, I have supported artists, students and other creatives at the Toronto International Film Festival Group, the Toronto Fringe Theatre Festival and the Kelowna Actors Studio.

I use the same processes and philosophy as I work with writers and authors. My job is to help you do your best work.

I completed the Simon Fraser University Editing Program, which I found to be a comprehensive and invaluable experience. My courses included editing basics such as Structural Editing, Stylistic Editing, Copyediting and Proofreading, but also Writing and Editing for the Web, Document Design and Production for Editors, and Advanced Study in Writing for Business and the Professions. I also have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in performance from the University of Alberta and a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University.
